The 4º Encontro de Cultura Surda: Arte em Movimento (4th Deaf Culture Gathering: Art in Motion) was held on 26 September 2026, Brazil’s National Day of the Deaf, at the Museu da Inclusão in São Paulo. The museum is part of the Memorial da América Latina complex, in Barra Funda, and belongs to the São Paulo State Secretariat for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which organised the event with the Escola da Inclusão. Admission was free and the event was accessible in Libras.

CCD-TAAL, the Science for Development Centre in Assistive Technology and Accessibility in Libras, funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and based at the University of Campinas (Unicamp), presented its work under the heading “Assistive Technology”. I took part as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of São Paulo (USP) affiliated with the centre and interpreted the presentation alongside Katia Lourenço. At the end, the team went up on stage.

The afternoon programme also included talks on Deaf associations, the Clin d’Oeil festival, veterinary medicine and Libras, and Deaf humour, and closed with a Deaf poetry session.
